Skating

I skated around the rink

I felt the slightest breeze

I heard the Coach writing with a pen

“Today we have a test?!” I asked my friend.

“You better start practicing!”

“How do you know?” I asked her.

“Because I just took class,” she retorted.

“That makes a lot of sense,” I concluded.

Then I started to warm up

First with backwards skating,

My heart started pounding; at Coach I stared,

“Ballet jump, check, Mohawk check!” I prepared.

Left foot backward, step over

Gliding on the smooth ice

Practicing brackets for a long time,

I felt my chances for a good score climb.

“Loop spin – nope….” I tried again,

My chance of success faded,

I tried and finally got my best –

Double-checked with my teacher for the test.
